Hmmm, that's a really good question. I've heard of familiars - they're sort of like magical pets, it seems like? People do address loved ones as 'pet' sometimes, but to refer to a loved one as a pet is rude. It's weird that one is considered degrading and one of them isn't, but that's how it is.

I would not normally chase the topic after such a response, but this has been my best idea thus far...

[They're still trying hard at this "terms of endearment for their Best Friend" thing, okay.]

If you were to call me 'familiar'? I think I would be happy hearing it from you.

[Part of that is because their awkwardness is one of the things that Evangeline finds cute about them, but shhh.]

But then what would I call you in return? The usual counterpart to a familiar is their master, but calling someone 'master' has very different connotations.
