"Not bad." For a beginner. She's clearly been practicing.
"Can you guess why I have us meeting in here?"
As he says that, the wind sways the tall trees which creates a shifting light in the area. Her ability move the shadow is gone when the light flickers. Since shadows and light are entwined...
He smiles. "Good. Light color also matters, for the record, that's harder mode. You'll know when you're an expert because you'll be able to go into a dance club with the flashing, color changing lights and maintain control."
"But sticking to light and color. My portals are the deepest shadows and they contain every color. if you could see that sort of thing, it's like a swirling rainbow. That's why my shadow blankets and other things I make from them look like spinning galaxies. You've seen one, right?"
"Maybe I'll make yo one sometime. They're surprisingly warm." Shadows seem like they would be cool, but he can manipulate them to do whatever he wants.
In response to his question, she focuses on a different magic - light creation from the dragon blessed powers. A small sphere of light in front of her changes colors as she talks. "It's basically the colors of a rainbow arranged in a wheel, right? Starts at red, goes to orange, yellow, et cetera, and violet loops back around to red again?"
The visual aid was probably not necessary, but she did want to mention that she could do now.
He nods. "I'm sure there's some gift giving occasion happening soon. And then I can teach you to manipulate the shadow cloth. You can make the blanket bigger or smaller, you could even change it into a cloak which helps you blend in with darkness." Useful shit for hiding or hunting.
"It's good that you have this light power, it'll help. Light makes the strongest shadows."
He nods at her color wheel explanation. "The color of the light matters. When you're using sunlight or a light bulb, the light is white, so the shadows contain every color. This makes them easy to manipulate. When the light is a different color, say blue, you have to use the color opposite it on the color wheel to make the shadows move. In the case of blue light, orange is the predominant color in the shadow."
[Evangeline excuses herself from her table and goes to find him - thankfully, he is not a difficult man to spot. She's dressed for the occasion, of course.]
[IMMEDIATELY he's going in for a hug - even moving down so he can reach to loop his arms under hers and everything. Big, bubbly neon tears are already forming at the bottom of his screen, breaking away and floating off before they flicker and disappear... big ol' sap that he is.
And then, murmured from where he's buried his screen against her hair:]
[Big ol' doofus crying about a bottle of rum... he hasn't even opened it yet, completely sober, he's just that much of a sap.]
Merci... I tried real hard, since I'm one o' the dates 'n all, y'know - show off the goods 'n stuff, let folks see what they biddin' on...
... The family-friendly goods.
[Still rubbing his screen against her hair... though there are some fun, audible electrical sounds coming from his antennae, since he's also mindfully drawing the static out of her hair with his magic where he can. He's not gonna mess up her hair for his own comfort, she probably spent so much time doing it up??]
Is, um... is he... always that nice? That kind of nice, too; not just nice, but nice?
[Well, of course; she's his beautiful girlfriend who spends so much time on her looks, the last thing he'd wanna do is mess that up any, even if she wouldn't care...!!]
... And when he offers ya stuff... you don't ever gotta question it? Like - if he gives ya stuff, you don't worry 'bout if he tryin' to trick you 'n take somethin' from ya?
Not ever. I've got a few gifts from him and haven't lost my soul yet. -I've met his daughter and she would absolutely kick his ass if he tried anything like that, if he didn't kick his own ass first.
"I'll start working on it soon." Minus a few torture dream derailments.
"All right. Try to manipulate the shadow again given the changing light. This isn't a color thing, just a light source thing, so it's a little easier, but it may feel like starting from scratch again. Just be patient and you'll get it."
